2016 Château du Clos Pouilly-Fuissé Hommage à Léonard Chandon

£44.00

“Co-owned by Fréderic Bourrier of the Château de Beauregard since 2012, this is run as a (very good) operation in its own right. Planted between 1934 and 1961, this 3ha site has produced an old-vine cuvée that’s firm, concentrated and almost a little tannic for a white, with taut, saline acidity, some stony reduction and layers of citrus and stone fruit flavours embellished by oak.”

Product Description

The excellence of Château du Clos is expressed in this exceptional cuvée, produced every year, vintage permitting: only a dozen or so wines, the best in the cellar, from the oldest vines. This cuvée pays tribute to Léonard CHANDON, ancestor of the COMBIER family who owned Château du Clos and whose brother Gabriel married Adélaïde MOET, the founder of the famous Champagne House of the same name. 1er Cru POUILLY is located in the heart of Pouilly, a hamlet of the village of Solutré-Pouilly, which gave its name to the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation as the cradle of the production of the great white wines of the Mâconnais: as early as the 18th century, Chardonnay was already being cultivated here, producing wines with a reputation comparable to those of the Côte d’Or.
