2023 Éric Forest Les Crays Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru

Eric Forest is one of the most interesting young winemakers in the Mâconnais region and a true rising star. Now in its eighth generation, he cultivates his family’s approximately five hectares of vineyards in the Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, and Mâcon-Vergisson appellations. His work was strongly influenced by his grandfather, who was known as a discerning connoisseur of nature and an early advocate of biodynamic methods. Forest’s delicate yet firmly structured wines are characterized by the typical fruitiness and approachability of the Mâconnais, combined with a minerality and depth more commonly found in the Côte de Beaune.

Les Crays is a terroir of limestone scree over blue marl from the Pliensbachian period. This south-facing slope of the Vergisson rock, bathed in sunlight and sheltered from the cool north wind, produces rich wines with a chiseled minerality and revealing a wealth of complex citrus aromas. This cuvée is harvested from several parcels planted between 1930 and 1966, totaling 2.16 hectares.

An exquisite Chardonnay – a balanced, characterful wine. On the nose, apricot, white peach, lemon zest, almonds, and elegant mineral aromas. On the palate, compact, structured, and elegant, with a slightly salty-mineral finish.
