2024 Montes Outer Limits Zapallar Sauvignon Blanc

£19.50

“The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc Outer Limits hails from Zapallar in the Aconcagua region. The grapes undergo a cold soak before fermentation. It opens with citrus aromas alongside soft jalapeño, green tea and lime notes. The palate is creamy and intense, with elevated flavor and an herbal background. There is a curious saline twist, with a touch of salt that adds complexity. This is vibrant, green and brushing against floral notes like acacia and orange blossom.”

93 Points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous

“The vineyard that this sauvignon comes from is located about seven kilometers from the sea, beside the traditional seaside resort of Zapallar. This 2024 season was especially cool, with few days of sun on the coast that influenced the late harvest, two and a half weeks later than the warm 2023. The result is a wine marked by herbal and fruity notes, a mouthful of fresh acidity, refreshing fruit flavors, and a sensation of creaminess that is very present. One for grilled sea bass.”

94 Points, Patricio Tapia, Descorchados

“Inviting tropical mango and passion fruit with citrus blossom and fresh aji verde. Bright, racy and lively with elegant lime leaf and wet stone minerality. Well balanced and gracious.”

Product Description

Aurelio Montes is widely credited with pioneering Chile’s quality revolution. His ability to identify potential in previously unknown sites, has led to the creation of appellations which now produce some of Chile’s finest wines. The Colchagua Valley is a perfect example of this. Aurelio first came to the area in his 20s and became fascinated by the then-barren landscape of Apalta, where Montes are based today.

Montes was the first producer to plant vines in Zapallar, situated at 150 metres above sea level and just seven kilometres from the Pacific coast. The soils of this single vineyard are granite with some clay and silt, and a layer of gravel on the surface that allows moderate drainage. The cool coastal climate and proximity to the mountain range helps to naturally regulate vine growth and yields, resulting in wines with racy acidity, minerality, and highly concentrated aromas and flavours.
