2020 Château La Gaffelière 1er Grand Cru Classé Saint-Emilion

£70.00

“The 2020 La Gaffelière is superb. Rich, dense and explosive. Black cherry, gravel, licorice, grilled herbs and menthol race out of the glass. Deep, pliant and explosive, the 2020 is magnificent. At this stage, the 2020 is an infant, but that won’t be a problem in a few years. This vivid, statuesque Saint-Émilion is nothing short of thrilling.”

98 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“Deep and intense notes of plums and blackberries with dark chocolate, toasted spices, walnut, crushed graphite and wet stones. Full-bodied with layers of ripe, velvety tannins that flow in a firm stream throughout the palate. Very structured. Delicious chocolate-wrapped black and blue fruit with spiced character and a really long finish. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc.”

97 Points, James Suckling

Product Description

Château La Gaffelière is first and foremost a historic Grand Cru. It has its origins in the exceptional terroir found in the golden triangle of the appellation in the golden triangle of the appellation, between the Pavie and Ausone hills. The subsoil, rich in limestone and clay, is ideal for growing vines, which have been planted here since Gallo-Roman times.

The vineyard of Château La Gaffelière covers 22 hectares in Premier Grand Cru Classé, 19 of which are in production. This vineyard of Saint-Émilion is located on 3 different zones. Thus, we find the famous asteriated limestone plateau, the outcrops of Fronsadais clay Molasses or a more siliceous hillside. Certified High Environmental Value, the vineyard of Château La Gaffelière is managed using sustainable agriculture, favoring the gentlest intervention methods.

Château La Gaffelière 2020 is made from a blend of merlot (60%) and cabernet franc (40%). Following the harvest, the grapes are placed in a cold room for 12 hours. A rigorous optical sorting allows only the best quality berries to be kept, which are then subject to parcel vinification in gravity-filled, thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation with pumping over and punching down. Malolactic fermentation in tanks (75%) and barrels (25%). Maceration for 30 days for the merlots and 32 days for the cabernet francs. The aging lasts 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels (60% new).
