2015 Torre de Oña Rioja Reserva Finca Martelo

£28.00

“I found a very complete 2015 Finca Martelo that followed the style and the quality path of the previous vintages. The release of this wine was an important milestone for Torre de Oña, where they look for the typicity of Rioja Alavesa through a blend of old-vine Tempranillo with 6% other varieties (Mazuelo, Garnacha and even white Viura). 2015 was a healthy harvest, and the wine shows a nice combination of power and elegance. It’s clean and modern but with a traditional twist, some developed aromas and very fine chalky tannins from the limestone-rich soils.”

94+ Points, Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

“This is the third vintage of Finca Martelo, made with grapes from the highest part of the farm in Páganos. Marrying Tempranillo with 5% Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura, all of them picked at the same time, it’s a fresh, floral, focused wine from a hot vintage with fine oak, chalky freshness and layered rose petal and red berry flavours.”

Product Description

Tower of Oña
Homeland, serenity, elegance, uniqueness…

These are the terms that define the identity of Torre de Oña . Concepts that have been taking shape since 1995, when La Rioja Alta, SA spearheaded this exciting project with the aim of producing a wine of excellent quality , one that also possessed all the personality imparted by one of the finest vineyards in the prestigious Rioja Alavesa region. A unique place that, we were convinced, offered undeniable potential for crafting a great modern wine, capable of conveying, as in the great châteaux, the exclusive characteristics of a privileged estate.

Since then, always striving for continuous improvement in the quality of our wine, we have made significant upgrades to our vineyards and winery. But it is in recent years, specifically since 2005, that we have dedicated particular attention to studying the different plots of this estate, to the separate production and aging of each sub-plot, and to soil analysis, determining where the highest quality grapes are found and producing only those vintages that meet the standards required for great wines with international appeal. Only in this way have our Finca Martelo and Finca San Martín wines, and the wine for our Winegrowers Club, been born.

95% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo, Garnacha and even Viura, representing the vineyard’s own traditional blend. The winemaker, Julio Sáenz, selected the Martelo, Camino de la Iglesia and Las Cuevas estates for this wine. Their vines are over sixty years old, distributed across northsouth facing slopes, with good exposure to the sun and wind, achieving balanced ripeness and magnificent condition.

Intense ruby red, clean and bright, with an elegant pink rim. The first impression to the nose is intense, with enveloping aromas of ripe fruit, wild strawberries, redcurrants and red cherries wrapped in fine notes of patisserie, shortbread, vanilla, liquorice and peppercorns. Well-balanced in the mouth, with a pleasant freshness, and sweet, silky tannins that lead to an enveloping f inish. A vintage to enjoy now, but with a long, exciting life ahead.
