2017 Chateau Cissac Haut-Medoc
£19.50
66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot on gravel. A cru bourgeois.
“Colour of black cherries with purple rim. Rich black fruit on the nose, a touch of cassis leaf adding lift, surprisingly open. Sweet-fruited and with some oak sweetness on the palate too but with the savoury quality of the Médoc to balance the fruit. Finely textured and supple tannins and a lovely freshness from start to finish.”
Chateau Cissac is a family owned estate in the Haut Medoc appellation of Bordeaux. The Vialard family have owned the Chateau for five generations after Louis Vialard inherited it in 1940. Winemaker Laurent Saint Pasteur works alongside the family on the 65 hectare estate. The vineyard holds the traditional mix of grape varieties with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Chateau Cissac strives to combine modernity and tradition and to ensure the the right balance is found between the two.
Chateau Cissac wines are beautifully made and offer some of the best value in Bordeaux. Cissac is undoubtedly “the pillar of the bourgeoisie” as Hugh Johnson has dubbed it.
