2017 Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Pinot Noir

“Focusing on single vineyard and single block wines from the Northern part of Mornington Peninsula, Yabby Lake was established by the Kirby family in 1998. 50.8 hectares of vines are planted on the north-facing vineyard slope, where they see maximum sunlight while benefitting from the cooling influence of the nightly sea breezes. Overseen by winemaker Tom Carson, the Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is fermented in traditional oak open fermenters with the wine seeing 13-15 days of skin contact, before 11 months maturation in 20% new oak. Roger Jones: Seductive, dark and glimmering with style, whilst the front has the dark berries the cedar silky mid palate with a hint of fresh acidity carries this wine beautifully, this is a world class Pinot that oozes quality and will age beautifully although it is a damn good wine now. Justin Knock MW: Moderate colour and somewhat closed on the nose, dark fruits and menthol, overall quite pristine fruit, ripe in the cherry, blueberry spectrum. Attractive oak make this really easy to like, it’s more conventional with lovely, cedary oak. Has the charm turned up and hard not to like. Easy and likeable. Anthony Rose: Deepish ruby hue, very seductive strawberry fruit fragrance with hints of spicy oak vanilla, and a fine purity of dark berry fruit flavours on the palate. Nicely supported by subtle oak and light tannins, while the cleansing acidity helps a tapering from mid to end palate in seductively elegant style.”

The palate is succulent and fleshy with great depth and detail. A wealth of attractive, immediate enjoyment here. The silky tannins and freshness are all very appealing.”
