2019 Altos Las Hormigas, Mendoza Tinto
£12.50
“Aromas of currants, blackberries, pumpkin seeds, dried herbs and black olives. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Juicy, saline finish. Delicious now.”
Friends and business partners Alberto Antonini and Antonio Morescalchi first visited Mendoza in 1995 and were instantly impressed by the vineyards they discovered. Nearly three decades later, the estate they founded, Altos Las Hormigas. This vineyard embraces a biodynamic approach in the vineyard, alongside minimal intervention in the winery. The Mendoza Tinto, a blend of Bonarda, Malbec and a small amount of Semillon, is their interpretation of the classic Mendoza red blend which existed before winemakers started focusing on single varieties.
On the nose this wine has, aromas of strawberries, figs, and red fruits prevail, followed by notes of clove, herbs, eucalyptus, and pine. The palate is round with a silky texture and complementing flavours of red fruits and spice. The finish is long and linear with refreshing acidity.
