2019 Beaune 1er Cru Les Sizies Domaine de Montille
£59.00
“The de Montille parcel here is 1.62ha near Les Avaux, at the foot of the slope in clay soils, and one-third of the grapes are fermented as whole clusters. The initial impression is one of forward, energetic primary fruit, with a silky texture cloaking discreet tannins on the palate to good effect.”
Founded in the mid-18th century, Domaine de Montille is one of the Côte d’Or’s most historic, family-run estates. It is currently run by the family’s ninth-generation, Etienne de Montille, who inherited the domaine from his late father Hubert.
The Beaune 1er Cru of Sizies was named after 13th century owner Renaud de Sessie, who owned tanneries in Beaune. It is located at the base of the Beaune slope. Soil here is predominantly made of clay. De Montille’s Sizies vines are from a 1.62 hectares parcel with an average of 30-year-old vines. The Domaine has practised organic viticulture since 1995 and was certified organic in 2012. Since 2005 it has also converted to biodynamic viticulture.
