2019 Château Mauvesin Barton Moulis-en-Médoc Bordeaux
£24.00
“Purchased by the Barton Sartorius family in 2011 (also owners of St-Julien second and third growth Châteaux Leoville, and Langoa Barton) this is from a 46-hectare vineyard with a blend of Merlot (64%) and Cabernet Franc (9%) on clay-gravel and Cabernet Sauvignon (27%) on fine gravel and gritty sand. Fragrant and on the intense side aromatically; pink flowers, red berry fruits, liquorice and mint. Softly chewy and juicy, a push-pull of quite massy, dense tannins with high but cool acidity and a chalky, mineral undertone. Feels well made with clarity and finesse to the overall expression. Lively, pure and focussed, on the broader side, but nothing over the top with cool blue fruit flavours and a strong liquorice and mint finish. Well worked, still a touch of tension giving some focused strictness but there’s lots to like here and this has great ageing potential. Fresh, generous, controlled and totally drinkable.”
