2020 Bachelder Les Villages Bench Chardonnay, Niagara Peninsula
£37.00
“Tingly exciting nose with a suggestion of Burgundian oak. Really quite impressive. Mouth-filling presence and fully ripe fruit without flab. Really excellent! Richer than the current Burgundian norm but with this level of acid, why not?”
Thomas Bachelder and his wife Mary Delaney have produced high-quality, cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in France, Canada and the US, since 2009. Originally hailing from Canada, the couple has returned to their roots and are now entirely focused on making wine in the Niagara Peninsula and raising the profile of this region.
The Les Villages ‘Bench’ Chardonnay is made using grapes sourced from benchlands along the Niagara Escarpment, which comprises the sub-appellations of Short Hills Bench, Twenty Mile Bench and Beamsville Bench. The resulting wine is delicately perfumed with a beautiful, textural quality on the palate. The single-vineyard ‘Wismer-Parke’ 20 Mile Bench Pinot Noir is beautifully poised and expressive, with notes of plush red berry fruit, silky tannins and bright acidity.
