2020 Bolgrad Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Odesa
£17.50
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot. Bessarabia subregion. 18 months in new French oak.
Deep crimson. Intense cedary cassis. Ripe, fresh and intense blackcurrant – essence of Cabernet. The oak is well integrated.
Bolgrad winery is near the Danube delta in Southern Ukraine, in the region of Odesa.
The Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2020 is showing fine, classy aromas that put you in mind of a more expensive Cab. It’s taut and cedary, focused and concentrated on the palate. I’m truly impressed at how it’s aged, but it still tastes young and this has a few years ahead of it. There’s a lot more going on that other most Cabernets at the price, and it would do very well in a blind tasting of Bordeaux. It has a finesse that I like, and purity. Superb with burgers, steak and lamb, but we drink it with anything we’ve cooked, and it’s great.
