2022 Atlántida Blanco Alberto Orte

£39.00

“Very clean aromas and flavors of white peach, pear and ripe apple with a hint of white earth. It’s medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a fresh, polished finish. A clear and structured white with lovely texture and salinity. Aged in used 600-liter barrels. Made from vijariego blanco.”

94 Points, James Suckling

“The 2022 Atlántida Blanco is pure Vijeriego Blanco, the same as Vijariego Blanco in the Canary Islands (sometimes also known as Vijiriego!), first produced in 2016. It has some aromatic similarities with the Vara y Pulgar Blanco, with an interesting variety, with more acidity than Palomino, more expressive aromatically and with aging potential. This fermented with indigenous yeasts and without temperature control in 228- and 600-liter oak barrels, where it matured for 18 months. It’s a powerful variety that works well with oak; the Palomino is more delicate, and the aging in smaller containers makes it quite expressive with notes of dry flowers, pollen and herbs, some spices and yellow plums. It has 13% alcohol, good freshness and balance and pure, pristine flavors, with a chalky and almost salty finish.”

Product Description

Alberto Orte is a force to be reckoned with, producing truly compelling and ambitious wines that have firmly established him as one of the most talented up and comers of the next generation of Spanish winemakers. In addition to co-founding Olé & Obrigado, Alberto has also dedicated a huge portion of his life to discovering great terroirs, resurrecting ancient clones, and replanting nearly extinct grape varieties that would otherwise be lost to modernity. Alberto produces wine in many regions throughout the Iberian Peninsula, most notably in Jerez, Valdeorras and Rioja.

Crafted from Vigiriega, a nearly extinct indigenous variety in Jerez, Atlántida Blanco is more than just a wine; it is a historical project that revives a bygone era of winemaking. This wine vividly expresses the terroir of Cádiz, offering a unique and deeply evocative glimpse into the past. Atlántida Blanco is a true journey back in time, capturing the essence of a historical winemaking tradition.
