2022 Bardolino Monte del Fra
£15.50
Screwcap. Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara from vineyards planted southeast of Lake Garda, 100 to 150 m, on limestone, clay, gravel and sand. Destemmed, short pre-ferment cold maceration, slow fermentation in steel vats with skins and at a controlled temperature. Marica Bonomo says they often chill this wine when they drink it.
“An explosion of red cherries and tarragon herbs, a squiggle of liquorice. There is so much playful, lively, uncontainable, love-me juiciness that simply tipping the glass into your mouth is a bit like sending a pack of puppies tumbling out the door. It’s yapping with life. Which is not to say this is a ‘simple, quaffing wine’. It’s not. This wine, in its silk slip of see-through tannins, is an extraordinarily pure expression of the grape varieties, soil, the vineyard, the vintage and the DOC. Every molecule of its beautiful fresh fruit is pulsing with integrity.”
The Lake Garda microclimate which the hilly area above Bardolino enjoys produces Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella grapes at a naturally high level of maturation.
Monte Del Frà`s Bardolino is a light-bodied, vibrant ruby, fruity blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara. Bright aromas of cherry and red berries are well-integrated with spicy hints of cinnamon, cloves and black pepper, which drift beautifully onto the palate.
