“The white 2022 Kalfu Sumpai Sauvignon Blanc was produced with grapes from their Nicolasa vineyard in Huaso (Atacama), the one closer to the sea, with more clay and salt, from which the Ventisquero team also produce the Tara range. The varietal and pungent wine has moderate alcohol (12.5%) and vibrant acidity, 7.39 grams measured in tartaric acid, and also a low pH denoting lots of freshness; it’s sharp and dry with pungent herbal and spicy notes and a salty finish. This has a strong influence from the limestone soils and the sea, which is only 19 kilometers away, and of course the extreme coastal desert climate from Atacama. It’s vertical, fresh and vibrant. 2022 was a little cooler in Atacama, but there, the vintages are less marked than in other parts of Chile. 8,000 bottles were filled after eight months in stainless steel barrels.”
