2023 Domaine Claude Riffault Sancerre La Noue Rosé
£27.50
“There are far too many Sancerre rosés trying to be Provençal, but this biodynamic Sancerre rosé has an almost Burgundian vibe. Single-parcel Pinot Noir is confidently handled, giving a pronounced salmon-pink hue with intense strawberries and cream on the nose that draw you in. On the palate, fresh redcurrants, ripe and opulent fruit, plus strawberry shortcake and cream. Full-bodied, intensely ripe and silky, with a lasting finish which reveals a touch of stem ginger spice”
Stephane Riffault is now at the helm of Domaine Claude Riffault, a 13.5-hectare estate based in the village of Sury-en-Vaux, around five kilometres from Sancerre. One of the most exciting domaines in the Sancerre appellation, all the vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic.
La Noue is a 2.5 hectare plot of Pinot Noir on clay limestone and marl. Divided into seven plots and ranging in age from 10 to 60 years old it is the source for both the Noue Rosé and Rouge. The rosé is a combination of juice bled off the Sancerre Rouge after a 6-12 hour maceration combined with direct press Pinot Noir.
