2023 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec

£38.00

“The 2023 Vouvray Sec Le Mont is certainly one of the highlights of the range in the 2023 vintage and offers spectacular precision and focus. In the glass, it pours a reflective straw/silver color and is more coiled, leading with a bit of flinty reduction before revealing notes of lime leaf, green apples, white flowers, and honey. On the palate, it has more linear drive, but that’s matched by compact density, crystalline purity, and a fantastic long and mouthwatering finish.”

96 Points, Audrey Frick for Jeb Dunnuck

“One of the great dry white wines of the Loire. This dry chenin blanc is rich and concentrated, but also graceful and delicate. Full-bodied but so elegant and precise, with a wet stone minerality that builds in a spectacular manner in the very long, refined finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.”

96 Points, James Suckling

Product Description

From the producer:

Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 by Victor Huet and his son Gaston. The Domaine now boasts thirty hectares of Chenin planted across three plots: La Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and Clos du Bourg. The estate was one of the pioneers of biodynamic cultivation in French vineyards. This cultivation method, which respects the soil, the plant, and the environment, allows us to develop the character of our wines and preserve the authenticity of the terroirs.

A biodynamically certified estate, the work in the vineyard is guided by the different rhythms of the planets, in the more or less conscious manner of the winegrowers of past centuries.

The Vouvray appellation’s grape variety is composed of a single varietal, Chenin which at Domaine Huet is poetically called ‘Plan du Clair de Lune’ or ‘The Vine Of The Moonlight’. While it is often produced in Vouvray as a sparkling wine, it is a grape variety that can also wonderfully reflect the terroirs and vintages in still wines. Known for their natural acidity and captivating aromatic palette, Chenin wines evolve slowly, acquiring finesse and subtlety.

Le Mont—For many insiders, the argument over Vouvray’s greatest vineyard comes down to two sites: Le Mont and Clos du Bourg. Undisputedly a grand cru vineyard, Le Mont enjoys a choice site on the Première Côte. With less clay and more stone than Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont yields young wines of intense minerality. With age, the wines develop great length and finesse.
