“This is the best-ever release of Thief in the Night, beautifully expressing the quality of Grenache grown on sandstone soils at a lofty 704 metres in remote Piekenierskloof. Fermented with 20% whole bunches, it’s a wonderful, graceful expression of what Duncan Savage calls a “ripper year”, with engaging flavours of pomegranate, goji berry and Turkish Delight and fine-boned, filigree tannins.”
This surfer-turned winemaking maestro established the stellar, Platter’s Wine Guide-wowing reputation of Cape Point Vineyards with his stellar Sauvignons. That was until 2016, when he boldly struck out alone to make the wines he always wanted to. Throughout his time at Cape Point, Duncan grew to understand coastal sites, and has continued to seek out maritime and high elevation sites across the Western Cape. Today his wines are in huge demand.
Sourced from bush vines planted at over 700m above sea level in the Piekenierskloof, ‘Thief in the Night’ reflects the purity and elegance of Grenache grown at high elevation. It bursts out of the glass with aromas cherry, wild herbs and spices, corseted by firm tannins and a savoury edge.
