2024 Savage White
£36/bottle drink until 2032
“This is the fifteenth vintage of Duncan Savage’s icon white and it’s up there with his best releases. Combining Sauvignon Blanc and 21% Semillon from three different sites, it’s an effortlessly complex, self-assured blend with fine lees, layers of blackcurrant leaf, seaweed and lime, subtle wood and a savoury, salty undertone. Sublime stuff.”
97 Points, Tim Atkin MW
2024 Savage Never Been Asked To Dance
£39/bottle drink until 2031
“Never Been Asked To Dance comes from a 1956 vineyard on the frontier between Paarl and Stellenbosch and is a Chenin Blanc that speaks of its granite terroir. Yeasty, savoury and waxy, it has some tannic backbone, flavours of yellow apple, citrus and oatmeal and the underlying concentration of its old-vine source.”
94 Points, Tim Atkin MW
2024 Savage Salt River Sauvignon Blanc
£21/bottle drink until 2030
“Vegan. Stony, non-fruity aroma with something almost yeasty. Perhaps lees? Tightly wound and it tastes as salty as its name, with a seam of citrus that is very subtle. Sour-fresh finish.”
16.5/20 Julia Harding MW for Jancis Robinson MW
2023 Savage Red
£37/bottle drink until 2034
“Duncan Savage is a fan of the “purity and elegance” of the 2023 vintage, comparing it to 2017 and 2021. His eponymous red is now a delicious, pure Syrah from the Langverwagt farm in Kuils River on the edge of Stellenbosch, showing aromas of tobacco leaf, incense and clove, spicy 50% whole bunches and a core of blackberry, plum and tapenade.”
96 Points, Tim Atkin MW
2024 Savage Girl Next Door Syrah
£46/bottle drink until 2032
“Girl Next Door now uses grapes from two small, Atlantic Ocean-influenced parcels on the Cape Peninsula, and you can almost smell the waves here. Pure, elegant and ethereal, it’s a Syrah for Pinot Noir lovers, with 50% whole bunches, negligible wood, aromas of seaweed, white pepper and petrichor and tangy plum, wild strawberry and blackberry fruit.”
96 Points, Tim Atkin MW
2024 Savage Are We There Yet
£36/bottle drink until 2033
“Are We There Yet? is a reference to the distance between Duncan Savage’s urban winery in Salt River and Sjinn’s vineyard in Malgas, the source of this blend of Syrah and 43% Touriga Nacional. Firm, dense and concentrated, it has muscular, red-blooded tannins, flavours of damson, liquorice and blackberry, a violet top note and lovely garrigue spice. A wine that could almost come from the Languedoc.”
94 Points, Tim Atkin MW
2024 Savage Follow The Line
£36/bottle drink until 2033
“Follow The Line is a stellar Cinsault that transcends the limits of the variety. Sourced from a parcel of 43-year-old dry-farmed vines on decomposed granite soils, it has 6% co-fermented Syrah for added complexity, rose petal and Turkish Delight aromas and a focused, pithy, Atlantic-influenced palate of plum and wild strawberry. The tannins are salty and fine grained.”
96 Points, Tim Atkin MW
2024 Savage Thief in the Night
£36/bottle drink until 2033
“Designed to show what Duncan Savage calls the “purity and power” of Grenache from remote Piekenierskloof, this is a superb dryland red that was fermented wit14.h 20% whole clusters. Zesty, refined and intensely stony, it has the freshness of a cool site at 704 metres, fynbos and potpourri aromas and layers of bramble, pomegranate and red cherry.”
96 Points, Tim Atkin MW
