2022 Gašper, Malvazija
£17.50
“Light yellow-green with silver reflections. Delicate aromas of fresh yellow apple, some pear, a hint of hazelnut, with dry herbs underneath. Complex, full-bodied and elegant, it has white-stone-fruit nuances and fine fruit expression. It has fine acidity, is persistent and has certain ageing potential.”
Gašper is located in Goriška Brda, which comprises two-thirds of Collio which stretches into Slovenia from Friuli Venezia Giulia, in northeast Italy. Goriška Brda’s climate is ideally suited to viticulture, with its proximity to the Adriatic Sea and the Alps providing dry, warm summers with cooling breezes during the crucial ripening period. The Gašper wine estate is a joint venture between a local co-operative and the Čarman family, who have been in the hospitality and wine industry for over 50 years.
The Malvazija (also known as Malvasia Istriana) is native to the Croatian and Slovenian coastal areas that once belonged to Italy. This unique variety is known to create wines which are taut and zesty, while also slightly honeyed in character. It is made solely in stainless steel and offers a slighter richer expression than the other whites, with aromas of tropical fruit and hints of almond on the finish.
